Use this plug-in to identify appropriate best practices, merged with your existing IT processes, to create your organization's unique compliant development process to maintain IT systems.

System requirements

Purpose

RUP for Compliance Management is designed to provide guidance for solving the complex issue of managing compliance with government regulations and industry process standards, as well as internal policies and practices. It can assist customers in defining and implementing a compliant software development process that addresses separation of duties, control points, audit reports, and authorization issues.

Critical areas that contribute towards managing compliance for software development include:

  1. Ability to establish a compliant development process
    • Approval checkpoints (both project and technical)
    • Quality gates
    • Separation of duties
  2. Ability to enforce a compliant development process
    • Automated workflow
    • Authentication
    • Traceability
    • Electronic signature
    • Separation of duties w/r/t user rights administration
    • Build management
    • Application security testing and management
  3. Ability to monitor and report software development controls status within broader IT-wide and corporate-wide controls management systems

Dependencies

This plug-in depends on the RUP plug-in, and the Formal Resources plug-in.

Note: This is a Rational Method Composer V7.0.1 plug-in. You can click on the plug-in name to download the zip file. For those plug-ins that ship with RMC V7.1, you will get the latest versions when you migrate to the RMC Version 7.1. Also in RMC V7.1 are new RUP plug-ins and many of the plug-ins here are available in more language versions than those listed below. New downloadable plug-ins are also avaliable for RMC V7.1 from the IBM Rational Method Composer 7.1 Plug-ins index page.

The following instructions are also in the readme.txt file that is included in the zip file.

To download the plug-in and import it into a Rational Method Composer library, follow these instructions:

  1. Download and unzip the file to a convenient location.
  2. Start Rational Method Composer
  3. Select File > Import to launch the Import Wizard
  4. On the Select page in the Wizard, select Method Plug-ins and click Next
  5. Uncheck the Use default directory checkbox
  6. Browse to the location where you extracted the plug-in and select that directory, click OK and then Next
  7. Check the box next to the plug-in name and click Finish
    If you do not have a backup copy of your current library it is advisable to make a backup copy before importing the plug-in. Click Yes when asked to make a backup copy of your library.
  8. The plug-in will be imported into your library and you will see it in the Library View

Installing a Rational Method Composer configuration

  1. Start Rational Method Composer
  2. Select File > Import to launch the Import Wizard
  3. On the Select page in the Wizard, select Library Configurations and click Next
  4. In the directory selection dialog box, uncheck the Use default directory checkbox
  5. Browse to the location where you extracted the plug-in and select the directory with the name configuration , click OK and then Next
  6. Check the box next to the configuration(s) you want to import and click Finish
    If you do not have a backup copy of your current library it is advisable to make a backup copy before importing the plugin. Click Yes when asked to make a backup copy of your library.
  7. The configuration will be imported into your library and you will see it in the Library View

Publishing a web site including the plug-in

NOTE: This requires that the compliance plug-in and configuration be installed.

  1. Install the compliance plug-in and configuration following the previous instructions
  2. Start Rational Method Composer
  3. Select Configuration > Publish
  4. Select the method configuration named Compliance, and click Next
  5. Specify the publishing options:
    1. Choose a destination directory, or check use default path
    2. Uncheck the check external hyperlinks checkbox
    3. Set the feedback URL to: mailto:rupfeed@us.ibm.com?subject="Feedback: Compliance:1.0B"
    4. Check the checkbox entitled: publish activity detail diagrams that have not been created in process editor
    5. Click Finish
