This is a collection best practices for authoring methods using IBM® Rational® Method Composer Version 7.5. The IBM Method Authoring Method provides step-by-step processes for authoring methods, including tool mentors.

Available configurations

There are multiple IBM Method Authoring Method (MAM) configurations, each with different objectives and intended audiences.

  • IBM MAM Basic: Describes the minimal process for authoring a basic method that is relatively small, independent, not integrated with a larger set of methods, and usually built by a small team. This is the configuration that forms the basis of the Rational Education Rational Method Composer Basic Method Authoring course.
  • IBM MAM for the IBM Practice Library (IPL): Describes a process for authoring methods that are intended to exist within the IBM Practice Library (IPL). The IPL is the practice library that is included with Rational Method Composer Version 7.5.

Installation

  • Zipped version of the published Web sites: Just unzip and double-click the index.htm file.

Note: When extracting the zipped published Web sites, it is a good idea to unzip them at (or close to) the root level (for example, C:/RMC_Published). This is because the generated file names are often long.

  • Zipped exported configuration: Unzip the exported files and import them into an existing library by using File > Import > Library Configuration from within Rational Method Composer.

  • Zipped exported tags: Unzip the exported tag groups and import them into an existing library by using File > Import > Tags. Then check the Practices and MAM Practices tag groups in your tag preferences (Window > Preferences > Method > Authoring > Tags).

Help: Update or add to My dW interests

What's this?

This little timesaver lets you update your My developerWorks profile with just one click! The general subject of this content (AIX and UNIX, Information Management, Lotus, Rational, Tivoli, WebSphere, Java, Linux, Open source, SOA and Web services, Web development, or XML) will be added to the interests section of your profile, if it's not there already. You only need to be logged in to My developerWorks.

And what's the point of adding your interests to your profile? That's how you find other users with the same interests as yours, and see what they're reading and contributing to the community. Your interests also help us recommend relevant developerWorks content to you.

Help: Remove from My dW interests

What's this?

Removing this interest does not alter your profile, but rather removes this piece of content from a list of all content for which you've indicated interest. In a future enhancement to My developerWorks, you'll be able to see a record of that content.
