Thanks a lot for the information. If I may ask a couple more questions:
the pvob will be multisited. Everyone will be accessing the pvob, when they
open up the project explorer, checking out a file, rebasing, delivering or
creating baselines on non-multisited components too. Thus, even if the
number of components multisited is 5 with 5 concurrent users, the rest 15
will still be accessing the pvob regularly and thus picking up a multisite
license. Am I correct in the above statement? Or does access to the
adminvob/pvob not matter for multisite?

This is a fairly common question, and one that never quite seems to get an
answer that is easily understandable. As you already know, you need a
ClearCase license to access a set of ClearCase VOBs. With a license of this
type you can access any ClearCase VOB that is associated with the ClearCase
license server. It's almost always the case that license server and VOB
server are one and the same.

When you create a replica of a VOB using MultiSite you have at least two VOB
replicas as a result. The original VOB is reclassified as a replica and the
one you created and sent to another site is the second replica. Once these
replicas are created you need both a ClearCase license and a MultiSite
license to access a replica.

So, let's say that you have 30 ClearCase VOBs, with 20 developers, and you
have 10 ClearCase licenses. Now you take 5 of those VOBs and transform them
into replicas. What you need to do is determine how many concurrent users
will need access to these five replicas. Let's say that this number is 5,
determined much as you did for your 1:2 ratio. You would need at least 5
MultiSite licenses, but I would get two more at a minimum, since you are
going to need to do MultiSite administration. This is the kind of formula I
have used in the past with success. The 1:2 ratio is not always the case,
but the rest should be OK.

HTH.

Hello,

We are going to be using Multisite in our organization. We have been
ClearCase users for some time now. We purchase ClearCase licenses on a
ratio of 1:2 (one license for every two developers) which has served us
well. Is there a similar ratio for purchasing Multisite licenses. The word
we got from the Rational reps is that we should get a multisite license for
every clearcase license that we have. We are going to be actively
multisiting only a few of our vobs/components. Do we still need as many
multisite licenses as clearcase licenses? It just struck me that we will be
multisiting the adminvob and the pvob, so the answer is probably yes, but
could someone please confirm?

Thanks much,
Yamuna
