Tough Ride for Public Search Firms

Executive Recruiter News details how the price of shares in the world's two largest retained executive search firms, Korn/Ferry Int'l and Heidrick & Struggles, have declined dramatically in recent months, with shares in the former trading barely above its IPO launch price. Shares in Korn/Ferry have been trading in the $15 range, or just more than $1 above its original offering price, and far below a 52-week high of $40.44. Shares in Heidrick & Struggles, which had climbed to a 52-week high of $73.13, have been trading recently in the $21 range.

Phone-to-Web Technology Aids Diversity Recruiting

Recruiting Trends reports that The Center for American Jobs has launched its DiversityJobNetwork.com, an online recruiting service that allows job seekers to post their resume by telephone. With less than 50% of minorities online, the network bridges the digital divide. Through its phone-to-Internet technology, the site allows job seekers to post their credentials on the Internet -- even if they do not have a resume or Internet access. With a toll-free call, job seekers have access to automated interviews for over 200 positions and can leave special messages for prospective employers.

e-Recruiting Conference

The next e-Recruiting Conference & Expo will be held October 25 & 26, 2001 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Ira Kay, practice director of Watson Wyatt's Compensation Practice and co-author of its Human Capital Index Study, and Deb Besemer, president & CEO of BrassRing Inc., are among the featured speakers. Other speakers include Microsoft Internet Recruiter Jenna Adorno and DiversityRecruiting.com founder Richard Clarke. Recruiting Olympic Hopefuls Online

Monster.com, the first dot-com sponsor of the Olympic Games, creates the first ever career management web site designed exclusively for U.S. Olympic athletes and Olympic hopefuls. TeamUSAnet, a joint effort between Monster.com and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), features an assortment of career management tools including a resume builder, job search access, an Olympic mentoring network, and other distinctive content that caters specifically to athletes. The vast majority of athletes who compete as Olympians have limited self-promotion opportunities throughout their athletic careers, so Monster.com has signed up former Olympians Eric Heiden and A.J. Mleczko to help connect Olympians and Olympic hopefuls with meaningful work after the games.

Driving the e-Recruiting Marketplace

A new report by Kennedy Information Research Group (KIRG) reveals that a handful of new competitive dynamics are changing business models and vendor profiles in the wake of the continuing downturn in the U.S. economy. The Electronic Recruiting Marketplace: Key Data, Forecasts & Trends finds that e-recruiting vendors are experiencing cash shortages, their customers are becoming more sophisticated and the industry itself is diversifying as it matures. KIRG estimates the e-recruiting market to top $5.3 billion by 2004. To order a copy of the report, call 800-531-0007.

A Home for Downsized Dot-Commers

Displaced dot-commers and their future employers have gained a new meeting ground thanks to a new site launched by Precision Marketing Solutions, Inc. The site PinkSlipParty.com - allows job seekers to post their resumes and browse job ads for free, while employers and recruiters pay a monthly fee for unlimited job listings. A company statement announces: "As various sectors of the Internet begin their rebirth, both talented tech workers and e-businesses need to position themselves well for the next wave of development." Pink slip parties have been immensely popular in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and other U.S. cities and have traditionally given dot-commers and hiring company executives the chance to get acquainted in an informal environment.
