Hi John,
.nfsXXXXX are indeed created when a remove operation is performed on an
open/busy file. If you are doing rmvob or rmview operations and they
are creating these files, then it's most likely that the view or vob in
question is mounted and/or the view_server/vob_server process for that
particular view/vob is still running.
Try and see if such is the case and kill the processes before trying the
rmview/rmvob command. If this doesn't work, try shutting ClearCase
down, make sure all ClearCase processes are stopped, restart ClearCase
and try the remove. It only takes one hung/zombie process to break the
functionality of many programs. If you are unable to kill the process,
it may require you to reboot your Sun or the filer.
If you've tried all of the above and it still doesn't work then I'd
start troubleshooting your hardware to see if you have a bad cable or
some other condition like a bad NIC card which would cause RPC
failures/timeouts. Are there any other warning or errors in the
ClearCase and system logs?
