I was finally fix the problem after I move the \atria\var directory and
install again.
Then I copyied the old \atria\var\rgy directory back to the new \atria\var
with only
The \atria\var\rgy\regions file using from the 4.2 installed one. Then I get
my clearcase
Registry back and without the nasty "nonexistent region" problem. hope
someone is
Here when I am doing this upgrade. then I don't have to spent a long weekend
like this.

Wish it helps to someone doing 3.2.1 upgrade to 4.2.
phil

I got a "nonexistent region or registry file" error when I upgrade my
registry
Server from 3.2.1 to 4.2 on NT 4.0 without uninstalling the old
\atria\var\rgy directory.
It seems after install clearcase can not read the registry file in that
directory.
Any idea or solutions ? I still want to use the old registry information
though.

Thx in advance.
phil

Hi Everyone -

I just wanted to update all you CCIUG readers with what the problem was with
my upgrade from 3.2.1 to 4.2. The installation was easy but this problem
was hard and is a rather big change from versions below 4.2. A bug report
has been filed at Rational for both the release notes and
installation/upgrade for 4.2 because of what was found out. Here is the
scoop.

The /var/adm/atria/almd file is no longer a socket it is a straight file.
Example of old and new below:

What it should be for 4.2 CC

-rw-rw-rw- 1 root other 356440 Jun 25 06:49 almd

What it should be for 3.2.1
srwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 May 17 10:47 almd

All I really had to do (wish I had known this on Saturday) was to move almd
to almdhold (or whatever)
and stop and restart clearcase. This made my VOBs immediately available and
eliminated all IO errors.

So again, the documentation names this as a socket but as of 4.2 it no
longer is. The install_release script does not clean it up, leaves it as a
socket.

I suppose you could also deinstall and then install - but I like just moving
the almd file and recreating it with the atria_start (stop) script because
I kept all my rgy information.

I hope that this info helps anyone else who is going to upgrade to 4.2. I
learned a lot but really do not want to repeat a weekend like last weekend.

Special thanks to Mark Keil who called me and spent a lot of his time trying
to work through this problem. Thanks, Mark

Subject: [cciug] VOB/ VIEW Error after 4.2 upgrade - Hope someone is
there

I have just upgraded from clearcase 3.2.1 to clearcase 4.2

The process seemed to go very well (no errors) but I have run into a
problem.

When I try to cd to my VOB mount point after setting to a view I get the
following messages and errors.

The message from the actual command

pe2/home/lwillard> ct setview lw40zep
pe2[lw40zep]/home/lwillard> cd /vobs/sw
mvfs: ERROR: view=lw40zep vob=/vobs/sw - Communications timeout in ClearCase

see view_log on host zeppelin for more info
mvfs: ERROR: view=lw40zep vob=/vobs/sw - Communications timeout in ClearCase
server
see view_log on host zeppelin for more info
bash: cd: /vobs/sw: I/O error

The error message form the view_log

06/23/01 10:43:24 view_server(668): Error: vob_ob_get_gen_num_V2: RPC:

receive; errno = Connection reset by peer

er

When I do a ct lsvob -long it looks good
When I check to see if I have the correct version on all servers using ct
hostinfo -long it looks good

The VOBS are mounted. I can ping the vob-server. I can cd through the mount
point to the remote vob location.

I do not understand what this is telling me.
I have called Rational support and waited on the phone for over an hour - no
one answered. Totally ticked about this.

Please if you are there and have any ideas send me a quick email or call me

Sincere, thanks
