To anyone who can help:
I'm using ClearCase 4.0 for NT to do a merge.
Here's my problem. I've created a new view (retroView)
based on an old label (i.e. VERSION_3). I now want to
merge certain elements from the current version (i.e.
VERSION_5) into "retroView". Here are the problems I'm
encountering:
1) For any elements that already existed in VERSION_3,
the merge fails the first time I attempt it. The
second time, it works!
2) Any time I try to check out an element in
"retroView", I get an error:
"Element already has a branch of type 'retroView'
('\main\retroView'); Unable to create branch requested
by -mkbranch option in config spec; Unable to check
out foo.cpp
3) Since "retroView" did not contain certain elements
that have been added since it's source label was
defined, those files are not merged (which I guess
makes sense; I can copy them over manually). But is
there any way to automate that as well?
I've never tried to merge from a more recent baseline
(with new additiosn) to a view based on an older
label, so I'm stuck here. If anyone has ever done this
before, what am I doing wrong? Did I not create the
"retroView" correctly? I assume I'm just unaware of
some basic concept of ClearCase.
Thanks for any and all advice!
