Ken,

Don't know if this is any help to you. But we have experienced the same
error on our UNIX license, registry & vob server. What was happening, was
that when certain CC commands were issued from a Windows client, then the
albd server would die on the server with an "exit 4" error message. One such
command we identified was clearlicense, which we were issuing every 5
minutes so that we could chart license usage.

We have had this fault logged with Rational support for quite some time now.
They believe that the problem is with the UNIX operating system, but they
have said that they will produce a patch with a workaround. In otherwords,
an albd server with proper error handling.

You could try issuing the clearlicense command from a windows client to see
if it causes the albd server to fall over. If so, log a call with Rational
support as I believe that they might only be patching the UNIX version.

The error is such a problem, that we have had to put in a cron job that
checks the albd server every minute
and restarts it if neccessary. Not an idle solution, but all we can do for
the time being.

I would be interested in any of your findings, as it may help us with the
problem we are experiencing.

Regards

Phil

Subject: [cciug] ALBD Service

Hello:

We are running CC 4.1 on win2000 server and workstations. It seems as
though we have a common problem. When we boot the SERVER, (this
contains the license server, VOB server, and VIEW server). we get the
error

ClearCase does not appear to be running on this computer.

Checking the ClearCase Control Panel applet the ALBD Service is not
running. We have to manually start this process. The same holds true
for workstations when booted. This problem just started since the
building was re-wired to run at 100mps. Does anyone have any idea how
we can track this issue down?

Thanks

Ken
