I hesitated to sound so authoritative on cciug, and perhaps I should
have listened... :-)

There are a couple of issues in the v4.1 -> v4.2 HP-UX upgrade
installation. One has a fix staged and will go out in the next patch,
and it isn't quite clear if the other one is a real issue or not.

The first is that the install tool fails to properly delete the
socket file /var/adm/atria/almd during the upgrade install, and as a
consequence the lock manager process gets a bit confused. One
workaround is to shut down ClearCase, delete that file manually, and
then perform the upgrade install.

The other issue is that ClearCase v4.1 on HP-UX 11.x was installed
from a release area using the architecture name "hp10_pa" for a RE
related issue.

This means that when you perform the upgrade install, the new
program bits get installed into /usr/atria/hp11_pa, instead of
overwriting the old ones. This _shouldn't_ cause any problems, except
for leaving behind an unused hp10_pa filesystem tree, but I have one
credible report that something ends up broken. Unfortunately, that
report is also imprecise and without any detail, so I can't confirm or
deny it.

If an upgrade install does leave the product broken, please notify
support so we have visibility on the issue.

thanks,
tim
