Actually, I setup a trigger on rmelem so that only the admins can use it.

rmelem is permanent. it removes the element from *all* directory versions it
had once lived in (so that if you went back to earlier directorie versions,
that element will not be there anymore). it is permanent... it does not end
up anywhere else in the VOB, not even in lost+found.
once rmelem is run, it disappears from the current version too (but if you
had a view private in some view, then it will still look like it is there).
for damage control, you can put a trigger on rmelem, and tell developers
that they need to use rmname to remove it from the current directory and
future versions.

Just a general question to anyone. If you do a rmelem, does it remove the
element completely from the vob or is it still in the vob from a previous
version? Like I said before, I am new to this and I don't want to make the
same mistake.
If it does remove it completely from the vob, how do you remove an element
from the current version you are working on?
Thanks,
