Added to that you don't have to deal with the complexities of the db being
out of sync while you are doing a Vob restore.

I concur with Santosh. I believe you can still use vob_restore for
restoration of the VOB but locking the VOB is critical to backup even with
shutting down CC. Rational actually issues a WARNING regardless of your
chosen backup strategy. Locking the VOB should be mandatory. This flushes
a database checkpoint to disk before backup. You're better off locking the
VOB.

Hi Marlene,
I guess you should be able to. Make sure that your backup software backups
the Open files. I would still recommend backing up the vobs locked. Is there
any reason for which you don't want them locked.
