Ho hum.

No one has any clues whatever? Even a place to start looking? Any
Rational techies that want to shoot me a private email? :). It seems
very likely to be something related to the chroot, the loopback mount,
and/or MVFS since everything works except for the actual setview
command.

It seems like a kernel thing, because if I boot this exact same system
with my older 2.2.16-22 kernel it works. But yet it doesn't seem like
_only_ a kernel thing, because I tried booting the vanilla RH 7.1 kernel
rather than the one I built locally, and that doesn't work either. Of
course I didn't rebuild MVFS... does MVFS build differently based on
your kernel config, or does it only depend on the version of the kernel?

It's really close to working--and I'd really like to not have to
reinstall this system if I can help it :(.
