We have had our F740 for 332 days. I only know this because thats what
'uptime' reports. The claims are impressive
and in our experience they are generally quite accurate. We have the Filer
sitting on a 100MB Ethernet backbone, and in
out tests, it performed almost as well as local disk storage on a SUN E4500
with storage arrays. Given all of the other
benefits, we were happy to make the switch. If you can use Gigabit
Ethernet, then performance will probably be
better than local disk. We currently only have to lock our vobs (133 of
them) for just over 2 minutes while a snapshot is
taken for a backup.

We have experienced one problem with the Filer, but this appears to be a
ClearCase problem in an NT-UNIX interop
scenario. Rational are aware of the problem, and are woking on a solution.

Regards, Neal.
