Sorry, when I read my mail I found an error, ClearCase Attache could work
with UCM on the UNIX side, but would require the Attache CLI... I should
have stated, no graphical support of UCM operations....

Sorry

Fred

Cristina, yes ClearCase Attache or ClearCase/MultiSite Attache(if a
replicated VOB) licenses are required for any Attache Client operation.

Advantage---- that Attache used to provide(long before the snapshot view
paradigm) was its ability to provide ClearCase access from any client
(3.1x,3.51,4.0,95,98,2000) to the Unix world without the installation of a
third party NFS-SMB implmentation.

Advantage---- Price, Attache was cheaper than a standalone CLearCase
license.

Advantage---- Attache is a easy to administer, as the ws_helper(kind of
like the ClearCase gatekeeper to the Unix world in your example) is pretty
simple.

Disadvantage-- Does not integrate into explorer, offer UCM support, and have
as many robust applets and interfaces as Full ClearCase ,If you have a
customer that is planning to due ClearCase long term on the Windows side,
snapshot views/CCFS(or Dynamic if you have NT/2000) are usually preffered,
as you will be able to offer more "Full ClearCase features".

Attache can be a great fit it they have a small amount of users(Attache can
scale very well though)

Cheers

Fred

What are the developers going to use to access CC via Attache? You used to
need an Attache license for each such user, but they don't make them
anymore, since all Windows platforms can now install CC. The Attache helper
is invoked by the albd_server process for those who still use it, but I'm
all but positive that licenses are needed. Remember, TANSTAAFL!

Subject: [cciug] Best Implementing with attache

Hello everybody:

I am trying to get the optimum configuration for a customer who wants to
implement ClearCase in his company. He has a central repository which
contains the common components for his applications, and around 5 areas
which develop their own applications.

I think that he can have a special server (Rational Server) which works like
VOB server, view server, license server, registry server and server for
other rational tools. For this server he can get 2 ClearCase NT license (one
for the main administrator and other for the responsible in the area). The
clients can use attaché. The problem is that I don't have experience using
attaché.

What do you think?? Is this the best option?? Which are the advantage and
disadvantage to use attaché??

I will appreciate any comments and suggestions.

Thanks

Cristina
