John, quite the opposite is true, the GUI does not use a "cleartool
mechanism" for a operation like checkout,checkin etc ...most gui commands
use cleardlg /command <file>

If you wish to see some of the more common cleardlg commands used by the
GUI<explorer/ details>, execute cleardlg /? from a command line.

I do not think it is possible to "trap" what the user executed via normal
clearcase / explorer functions, However, if you were running ClearCase 4.0
the ClearCase Automation Library allows
you to create your own "trappable" menu system if you desire, granted this
may be a big undertaking, but if your process requires it, then it may be
worth it.
