We're currently planning what the costs are for implementing ClearCase
at ChannelPoint, and we need help in gathering some numbers on what
folks are currently running.
We're looking at server specifications for VOB and View servers:
Platform/Model:
CPU (# and speed):
OS:
RAM:
Disk:
Network:
We currently have 20 GB of active code (stored in Perforce) we're dealing
with
that looks like we're going to 50 GB in the next year, and we're trying to
determine
how to distribute the code across VOBs. The whole formula of:
VOB RAM = VOB storage size / 2
...would mean we'd need a significant about of physical memory across
a large number of VOB servers.
We're currently thinking of 17 Sun Enterprise 420R's (5 VOB servers, 10
view servers, 1 License/Registry Server, 1 MultiSite Server) with 4 GB of
RAM each.
For our disk space solution, we're looking at Network Appliance's F720
with 200 GB of disk and our whole internal ClearCase appliance network
(VOB servers, View Servers, and Build Machines) all interconnected via
gigabit network technology.
Is there a better proposed architecture for this? Please blow holes in
this. As many as you can.
I was a ClearCase Administrator at Quickturn Design Systems and
Synopsys for three and a half years on the 3.1 UNIX releases many years
back, and haven't have the fortune to be on it since.
Thanks!
Steve
