We used CVS before converting to ClearCase serveral years ago.
We considered the ability to rename files to be a show-stopper
requirement. Also the ability to store files containing data
that cannot be merged. There were other requirements that today
would no longer be show-stoppers (e.g. support for NT), and at
the time reliability was an issue.
