I've tried this in several ways - even through a T-1 we felt it was
inadequate - Multisite is your best bet

Subject: [cciug] ClearCase over a WAN

Has anyone out there ever run Clearcase (NT) over a WAN. Specifically, you
have the NT client (and view storage) local to machine, with the VOB server,
registry, and license server across the country.

Of course, ClearCase's performance is....umm....adequate on a LAN and I've
done this experiment on a couple of cases.

Has anyone done this?

What kinds of bandwidth did you need to make it work?

What kind of latency did you network show? (This is where I think it kills
you. We did a simple checkout of a file and recorded some large number of
network "conversations" that were a result. DNS lookups, license, registry,
vob server access, etc. Something like 80 separate transactions. On a
LAN, this isn't noticable. However, on the WAN, we have ping reply tims of
about 200 ms coast-to-coast and this will really slow the whole process
down).

Any thoughts would be helpful.
