cciug folks,
I am a newbie at ClearCase and CM. I checked the archives but didn't find
an answer...
The question is: Is this expected behavior and/or Is there a better
faster way?
Now explanation. We are trying to do some prototyping of moving and
setting up for
use some CVS data into a ClearCase. The data we got was 150Mb (tarred).
12K files in
2K directories.
We have not gone to ClearCase 4.0 yet, we are still on 3.2.1 so we knew
that we wouldn't
get everything exactly correct using the RCS export but thought it would be
good enough for
our current needs. The export went pretty quickly... generated a CVT_DATA
file of 3.5Mb.
Definitely LOTs of files. The SUN Sparc system we are using to do the
import is dedicated to
just us. No other users.
The Bad news: the Import is still chugging away a week later. The good
news: the system is
letting us chug this long without failing. I know that there were a lot of
files and that the branch
labeling is not working correctly, But, doesn't this seem like a lOOOOOOONG
time??
How have some of you folks moved Large Sets of source code that have been
around awhile
into ClearCase?
Something just doesn't seem right. Do I really need to plan on the real
switch over taking that kind
of time? (remember it's still going...) Is Multiple VOBs the only way to
shorten the time??
Thank you for any and all suggestions,
