I'm curious, why do you need to do this?
Who's crazy idea is this?

Let me guess, some internal organization thinks that this
will make it easier for *them* to do thier job,
even if it make it harder for everybody else. Am I right?
(I mean like it's just as easy to remember that 85009304
is the programmer down the hall that is working on the 8395k45
project, as it is to remember that Yuri is working on the
 exceleron project...)

Subject: [cciug] Problems when renaming users

Hi all,

Has anyone encountered problems with permission after changing the
userid from a alphanumeric to totally numeric. Eg. from userid "jesse" to
"85009304" ?
Currently, I need to change all my users from their usual userid (which is
their name) to their commerce id (ie. badge numbers) and I'm facing problems
when the user tries to undo checkout/checkin an element after checking them
out. The user has no problem checking out the file but after modifying the
file, he cannot checkin or undo checkout. Error : Permission denied.

When I tried to ct protect to element to change ownership to the
user (eg 85009304), I'll get the error "clearcase error : User unknown". If
I were to lsco, I can see that it's checkouted by 85009304....
Any idea how to solve this ?
