RE: [cciug] importing Unix files from NT to VOB under Unix

Jay,

Sounds like the same shoelaces I tripped over some while back. The cvt_data
file is a 'directory' for the import operation. The ideal model is that you
have a view set during the execution of the clearexport_xxxx step (even if
the view is not directly used during that step). The clearimport step
assumes that this view is set to see the VOB into which the content is to be
imported, and that the actual content for the export is also available from
the location in which you run clearimport. There is more than one way to
'fake it' for the import content being present. If the files you wish to
import are such that you use clearexport_ffile on the WinNT side, then you
can package up the files with WinZip / NetZip / ..., ftp the content across
to Unix, reconstruct it so that you are in the same position during the
import with respect to the file content that you were when executing the
clearexport_ffile. If you are exporting using clearexport_ssafe, then you
MUST perform the import from a WinNT box (unless you have access to a copy
of VSS that runs on Unix (shudder)). When you run the import from a
SourceSafe export the SourceSafe executable has to be accessible, since it
is used to actually grab the content specified in the cvt_data file. Hope
some of this makes sense. If not, you know my e-mail address.

Subject: [cciug] importing Unix files from NT to VOB under Unix

Hello,

I took a chance that the easy way would work and of
course it did not.....

I exported some files under NT (clearexport), ftp'd
the cvt_data file to Unix (the VOB server) and did
the clearimport there.

All the files appear to be empty. I guess the pointer
file (cvt_data) doesn't actually have the data and
when I moved that file to Unix and tried to get the
scoop up the data, it wasn't there. That's what it
looks like anyway. Also the NT \'s are present.

Can anyone tell me what the correct (or reasonable)
way to do this would really be?

Thanks, Jay
