Hi All,

Req Pro's version management is definitely not what we expected. We're
wrestling with the Requisite Pro versioning of individual requirements right
now. We link Features and Use Case requirements to Test requirements then
links to test scripts in TestManager. We have version 1.x in a customer
site and the customer reports defects that change requirements (yeah, poor
requirements gathering) for the 1.x version. So we have to keep a "live"
version of 1.x available with the appropriately documented links between the
requirements. We have a version 2.x that was being tested, but has been
halted to reset the requirements and testing environments for the version
1.x testing and reporting. Our developers would like to be entering version
3.x requirements, but changes to 1.x or 2.x requirements screws up the
linkages, and makes it darn hard to re-produce proof (for arbitration, you
know) that we were developing, testing and documenting to the correct and
appropriate requirements for any one point in the lifecycle. The best we've
come up with is to make new projects in Requisite pro, and that forces the
re-creation (or exporting) of test requirements, and breaks all linkages.
The staff drain doing the resetting of the 20K test linkages bothers our
Testing and Project Management Group. They'd like to be able to version
individual requirements, and so would I.

The options we discarded:

Attributes-> Test Manager cannot see 'em, so the test script linkages from
TestManager to Req Pro can't be made.

New Requirement Types-> Only one Requirement type can be associated with any
one requirement, so I'd have to use a separate requirement for each version.
That breaks the linkages and leads to mulitple copies of requirements. Not a
good CM situation!

External Project connectivity-> Making the Test requirements an external
project and making multiple links to the multiple versions of requirements
(1.x, 2.x 3.x). Heavy performance hit, coupled with challenging tracking
killed this one.

I've talked with Rational support, and they understand the problem. They
are working on it, but we're ready to version them now. What are you all
doing to version control requirements documents and requirements inside of
Req Pro?

3.2.1

I recently set up the integration with 3.2.1. The only integration is that
RequisitePro will use ClearCase to "Archive" projects. In reality it is
just giving the ability to check in and check out the project files from
within ReqPro. There were some gotchas.

1. Everyone must use the same view (shared view). We set up a view and
mapped it to drive R: by adding the two lines to the login script.
    cleartool startview ReqPro_view
    subst r: M:\ReqPro_view

2. Create a directory on drive R: to hold the project (do not move it in).

3. Start RequisitePro and select Tools--Options. from the menu bar. Enter
R:\vob\ccdir in the ClearCase directory. We also have our working directory
set to the same.

4. Make sure you have a Project in the "Open" dialogue that points to your
existing files.

5. Select Project--Archive--Rational ClearCase from the menu bar.

6. Click on the Add button and select the Project. This will actually
create new directory under the ClearCase directory and move the project for
you. Not well documented.

7. Now use Project--Archive--Rational ClearCase to check out the project.
You can leave it checked out and multiple users can get to it. Only the
checkoutee can check it back in. Watch out for the Unlock button, it does
an uncheckout and you loose all of your changes.

Have fun. We are still experimenting with this change.

3.2.1

All,

I was tasked to find out if RequisitePro integrates with Clearcase
3.2.1. I have not found any information on the integration and thought
perhaps some one that is members of the cciug distribution may of
integrated these products.

1. Where can I obtain information on setting up the integration.
2. Will the two products integrate?

Thanks,
