Subject: RE: [cciug] what is the responsibility of release engineer?
I'm slow getting to my email these days...
But I am a release engineer and have been with 2 different companies and
have had two very different experiences.
My last company I was responsible for maintaining the build system, running
the nightly builds, tracking down the developer who broke the build or
assigning a developer to fix the problem, and a little bit of install work.
I was bored out of my mind.
Now I am responsible for maintaining the build system, scheduled builds, a
little bit of customization work on our product for our various partners,
administration of ClearCase, coordinating schedules between Prod Mgt and QA,
being the point person for everyone to find out which build went to who and
when, a little install work, setting up and administering MultiSite,
maintaining a couple of internal websites to disseminate release information
and to assist everyone in the event that I'm sick or take a vacation ;-) and
whatever else anyone can think of to throw my way. I work crazier hours
now, but I love what I'm doing. I feel like I have a real impact on the
deliverables.
