The mystery is now solved and I can reveal to you the truth
of the situation. My last mail where I said that you need to
reformat views when upgrading to 4.0 was so wrong it isn't
even funny - the database format for views in 4.0 is unchanged
from 3.2, so reformatview doesn't do anything.
The real answer was the one that somebody else (sorry, I
forget exactly who) suggested - if you are using Solaris
6 or 7 and you want to export views to an NFS v2 client
(e.g. Linux) then you must add this line to your /etc/system
and reboot:
set nfs:nfs2_limit_inum=0
This problem has nothing to do with upgrading to CC 4.0.
Unfortunately we upgraded to CC 4.0 and Solaris 7
simultaneously, so it was easy to get confused about the
source of the problem.
Many thanks to the people at Rational who helped me,
particularly Julie O'Donnell (even if she won't sneak
out an early copy of CC 4.0 for Linux to me...), and to
the various people on the support desk who helped me.
