I have played with the web browser a lot and we are about to deployed it to
about 20 developers. While you cannot edit the cspec from the web interface you
can create a "web" (*) view from a prefined view (reference view) that contains
the correct cspec that you would like to use. When you create the view from the
web i-face, do not choose <default>, select a view that has the cspec you would
like to use (if it doesn't exist, create it first from the native client). These
can be anologous (but not excactly like) to views profile. When you do this, the
newly created "Web" view will not only onherit the cspec properties, but if you
are using UCM, it will inherit the activity properties as well. So this means
that changes in the "web" view are associate with the change set defined in the
natice reference view.

As far as the IE problem, haven't seen it. I am using Netscape 4.7 and
5.00.2314.1003.

*NOTE: I call this a web view because it is a new special view type, it's a
combination of a snapshot and dynamic view. You'll also not that you do not see
any of the "web" views while using the client view admin tools (they do show up
in the registry file itself though).

Subject: [cciug] cc4 web client

Hi,

Anyone used the ClearCase 4.0 web client yet? I'm running it on NT, I don't
know if they released it on the UNIX platforms. Anyway, whilst I think it
will be handy for occasional users, and I also intend to use it for a
dogmatic developer at another site who refuses to work on a branch (enforced
by MultiSite) after a few bad experiences with merging - there are a couple
of problems that are bothering me.

Firstly, I can't find any way to edit the config spec of a view that you
create using the web client. This means that some files appear as 0 bytes
for instance, as they only have a \main\0 version on the main branch, which
can be disconcerting for the average user. I get various errors if I try to
use a view that I created outside of the web client. Nearly all our vobs are
multisited to 5 sites so we have branches aplenty.

Secondly, the java applets don't work on the version of IE that I'm using,
although they do work on other machines. After the applet downloads the grey
box stays a gray box. The java console doesn't give me any useful info. The
version of IE is 5.00.2919.3800.

Interested in any experiences...

jamie
