This is the same fix we made very recently and everything is working like a
charm - atleast the 'albd' problem is fixed, ccdoctor runs very quickly and
cd'ing into a VOB which used to take a long time is very quick.

NT4 SP4 has it's own set of problems. We use SP5 to attain Y2K compatibility,
although I beleive there is a patch for SP4 as well.
Having said that, we also see the message "Unable to contact albd_server" (even
after installing SP5). It seems to occur randomly, and has almost always
required a reboot of both the Clearcase server and the Primary Domain
Controller. Some weeks pass without problems, others are plagued constantly with
the problem (2 or more times in a day). When it occurs, everybody is affected.
We have been working with Rational tech support, who just recently suggested a
possible cause and fix. We implemented the fix about 2 weeks ago, and have not
seen the problem since, but this may be due to the random nature of the problem
- the jury is still out, imo. After reviewing network traces, here is what they
suggested:
"For what ever reason, credmap user look ups are failing and returning
'nobody' as a user. Once this happens, NT goes and tries to get a SID for
'nobody', but it can't find it on the local domain. It then traverses all
trusted domains looking for
this user that doesn't exist. Its here that things start to happen that make
it seem that a particular user is hung or an account is in limbo. Rebooting
the PDC cancels the call to the trusted domains and all will seem well at
this point....until the credmap fails again."
They suggested we fix it by applying the following resistry setting to every
machine that has Clearcase installed:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Atria\ClearCase\CurrentVersion
LookupOnlyFqNames
value = 1
I do not know the consequences of making this change if you do not have the
problem we have, so I suggest first calling tech support.

Hello,
Since you have SP3 for NT4.0, have you put the Y2k patch for SP3?
(SP3 is not Y2k Compliant). Better still would be to install SP4 for
NT4.0 and try.
Regards,
Ramesh Chandra

Hi,
I have pbs on some Clearcase NT clients when I load a
project in Visual C++: the system sometimes freeze or take so much time
(about half an hour) to load the project.
The Clearcase doctor is very long too or sometimes it never
ends.
I finally have the following message "Can't contact albd
server on host XXX". XXX is the host'name of the client.
I don't see any pb on the Clearcase log of NT VOB server.
Neither I see pbs on the Clearcase log on the client (asking
this log from another client).
The pbs ar not on all clients allthough they are all the
same and they all have the same configuration.
There is NO CPU activity, no network activity. Clearcase
seems to be waitting for something which is not responding ...
I use:
- On Windows NT 4 (SP3) Clearcase 3.2.1 + patchs 8 + 13 +
18 + 19
I have several clients which are view servers.
I have one VOB server which is not in the same NT domain as
the clients.
I did all the Clearcase "multi-domain" configuration needed
and it use to work properly.
- On Solaris 2.5.1 (+patches Y2K) Clearcase 3.2.1 + patchs
22 + 23
I have several clients which are view servers.
I have one VOB server (it is lthe license and registry
server).
- I use DiskAccess release 4.01.00.09.
Anyone encountered such pbs ?
Thanks to everybody who could help..
