As a follow-on to previous conversations with Billy Newport and Chris Vignola in this series, host Pat Flanders interviews Snehal S. Antani, WebSphere Extended Deployment Services consultant. Hear what makes this product so valuable to customers when deployed on either distributed or mainframe platforms. Included in this discussion:

  • An overview of key features delivered in WebSphere Extended Deployment and how they bring value to z/OS and distributed platforms, including dynamic operations, extended manageability, and business and object grid.

  • A problem/solution-style description for how these features can help improve your middleware environment touching on such topics as batch processing, dynamic operations, and application editions.

And on this week's "Did you say Mainframe?!" segment, David Rhoderick interviews Peter Siddell, CICS tools advocate from the IBM Hursley Lab, continuing the theme of CICS and SOA. Rhoderick and Siddell explore:

  • Why CICS customers are considering moving to an SOA environment.

  • Why you should consider CICS tools when starting to migrate to the next release of the CICS Transaction Server.

  • How you can benefit from continuing to use the CICS tools once your migration is complete, including the use of CICS tools when moving to a full SOA environment in CICS and communicating with other platforms.
