 Carol Jones is an IBM® Fellow and distinguished engineer in the IBM Software Group and the architect who led the startup of well-known products such as WebSphere® Portal, IBM Workplace Services Express, WebSphere Studio, and WebSphere Application Server.

She talks about the subtle refinement of software design and the use of certain technologies that is driving this evolution of Web-based collaboration. Examples of the friction between work models and the tools we use are mentioned, as well as solutions in the works utilizing real-time communication, activity-based computing, and social bookmarking. Jones is a distinguished engineer in IBM's Software Group. She is the architect who led the startup of well-known products such as WebSphere Portal, IBM Workplace Services Express, WebSphere Studio, and WebSphere Application Server.
