Dave Newbold, an IBM Distiguished Engineer and Chair the IBM CIO Technology team, authored the 2010 CIO Outlook, which is the basis for the discussion in this 30-minute podcast. Newbold touches on global integration, participatory internet, workforce demographics, software as a service, virtualized data and devices, simplicity from design, evolution of the desktop, and more. He talks about some critical issues enterprises face in moving forward with these emerging technology paradigms.

About the guest  Dave Newbold chairs the IBM CIO Technology team and is responsible for
leveraging emerging technology for use within IBM. As part of the CTT
role, he leads the long-term business transformation strategy for the CIO
and directs the CIO research portfolio in partnership with IBM Research,
product teams, and internal innovators. His recent work includes the 2010
CIO Outlook, mentoring the Technology Adoption program, and designing
Thinkplace — all projects dedicated to enabling collaborative
innovation. Previously, he created Internet and knowledge discovery
extensions to the Lotus Notes®/Domino® platform, and
invented and implemented the Lotus Discovery Server, which combined content
search and taxonomy services with an automated expertise location system.
He developed the notes.net community and various Internet extensions to
Lotus Notes, such as the Notes Web Navigator, and has been an active leader
in shaping the Lotus Internet and knowledge management strategies. He was
appointed an IBM Distinguished Engineer in 2001 and was named to his
current position in the office of the IBM CIO in 2003. Before joining
Lotus, he worked in various engineering and consulting roles for 3Com and
NYNEX Business Systems in the Northeast.
