In this podcast, John ("Jeff") Kelley reflects on a career in human
factors, ergonomics and usability engineering. Kelley is an IBM
user-experience professional and the current HFES Society president. He
also happens to be an accomplished avocational singer. The musical clips
you hear at the beginning and end of the podcast are from two CDs recorded by
his not-for-profit group, Charis Chamber Voices

About the guest  John ("Jeff") Kelley is a senior managing
consultant with the Usability Engineering Practice in IBM Global Business Services and
holds eight patents for a variety of inventions in areas as diverse as ice trays, gearless
transmissions, pen-size computing, automotive telematics, and user-interface design. Jeff
has a bachelor's degree in human factors, master's degrees in ergonomics and experimental
psychology, and a Ph.D. in engineering psychology from Johns Hopkins University. He is
also a board-certified ergonomist. Jeff is a Fellow of the Ergonomics Society in the
United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. In 1996, Jeff
won the highly coveted Alexander C. Williams Jr. Award from HFES for "outstanding
contribution of human factors to the design of a major operational system." He is the
former editor of Ergonomics In Design and is currently the elected president of The Human
Factors and Ergonomics Society.
