Point-to-Point
This Application pattern (aka User-to-User Topology 1) allows users to directly address other users on the network using simple point-to-point synchronous communications, and then enables them to begin a direct communication link with them.
Point-to-Point Collaboration is not yet documented beyond the Application pattern level.

Store and Retrieve
This Application pattern (aka U2U Topology 2) allows users to collaborate with others on the network interactively. Unlike the Point-to-Point pattern, this pattern does not require both partners to be online at the same time. It also does not require the client to know the physical or direct address of other users of the solution.
Store and Retrieve Collaboration is not yet documented beyond the Application pattern level.

Directed Collaboration
This Application pattern (aka U2U Topology 3) allows users to collaborate with others on the network interactively, requiring the two users to be online simultaneously and to register with a server prior to the collaboration. In this pattern all of the users are peers and there are no client-server or master-slave relationships between the tiers in the pattern.
Directed Collaboration is not yet documented beyond the Application pattern level.

Managed Collaboration
This Application pattern (aka U2U Topology 4) builds on the Peer-to-Peer Collaboration application pattern by implementing workflow rules to manage the collaboration between users of the solution. This Application pattern supports both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration.
Managed Collaboration is not yet documented beyond the Application pattern level.
