The focus of the third step is to identify any re-engineering or enhancements required to any of the Front-end or Back-end Integration patterns. The enhancements may be discovered by matching the business requirements to the Logic patterns followed by the Atomic integration pattern hierarchy.

Alternatively, using the Compound E2E Solution integration framework as a template the required Atomic integration patterns can be mapped out, as shown in the combine subsystems example. Then the Atomic integration pattern and asset hierarchy can be navigated to select candidate products. Finally all the patterns (and products) identified can be combined, synthesized and compared with the existing software inventory, resulting in a revised proposed product list (Iteration 3).

In this third step the site adds the following additional reusable assets:

Process of using the patterns

See Combine Subsystems example for an example of using this approach.

Atomic integration patterns

Atomic integration patterns provide a further decomposition of two of the Logic patterns. These more specific patterns can be used to perform a decomposition of the planned enhanced external integration. In the latter case the Atomic integration patterns can provide a linkage to discover possible product mappings and related assets for implementing these products as part of an externally integrated solution being developed.
