Apache Derby releases V10.3 beta and gains experimental hot standby replication
The 10.3 release includes security enhancements, language-based ordering, other features, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. Also, Egil Sørensen, a student at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, submitted his thesis to add hot standby replication functionality to Derby.

Apache Derby V10.2.2.0 released
The Apache Derby project is pleased to announce a new bug-fix release of Derby V10.2.2.0.

Apache Derby bundled with Java JDK V1.6
Build applications even more quickly and easily with access to the Java technology-based Derby database, which implements many features from the latest JDBC 4 API specification, directly out of the JDK.

IBM posts documentation for Cloudscape
IBM has published technical documentation to aid the adoption of its Cloudscape database, which the company made open source. IBM and the Apache Foundation created an open-source project called Derby around the database.

Derby day as IBM® database goes open source
IBM has given the Apache Software Foundation a copy of its Java-based Cloudscape™ relational database, codenamed Derby. Derby contains about half a million lines of code, but it can easily be embedded in an application because it needs only 2MB of memory and no administration.
