Also, Egil Sørensen, a student at the Norwegian University of
Science and Technology, submitted his thesis to add hot standby replication functionality to Derby.

IBM posts documentation for Cloudscape
IBM has published technical documentation to aid the adoption of its Cloudscape database, which the company made open source. IBM and the Apache Foundation created an open-source project called Derby around the database.
Derby day as IBM® database goes open source
IBM has given the Apache Software Foundation a copy of its Java-based Cloudscape™ relational database, codenamed Derby. Derby contains about half a million lines of code, but it can easily be embedded in an application because it needs only 2MB of memory and no administration.
