Good Software Design is Good Business - whether you're taking a pure code-centric design approach, using an agile design approach, perhaps even mixing in some UML or taking a more formal UML or MDD approach or other innovative design concepts, you know, you JUST KNOW, that relatively small investment of design time to "see the forest and not the trees" can save you time and money on your projects that support your business.
Like the well-attended IBM Rational Innovate conferences, this group is intended to inspire, teach, and foster collaboration on several different themes of Good Design to support your Business, in a virtual, online format, among both clients and IBMers. Regardless of the approach, programming languages, domains, or implementation technologies, design is a proactive step to get your effort healthy: it is the vitamin you take versus the aspirin that you may take later when you are suffering "project pains".
Clearly, Good Design is not a panacea [hence, not called "Perfect Design"], but the goal is to introduce concepts that can improve your efforts, and save time and money for your business. The title of this developerWorks group was inspired by the IBM Centennial Video (5:50 time mark), where the quote "Good Design is Good Business" was used. Apparently, IBM Founder Thomas Watson was also known to have used this phrase!
I really hope you not only find this useful, but an enjoyable experience too!
