One man of steel says 49% call center success rate stinks

The man of steel we have in mind is  IBM Watson Engagement Advisor , announced earlier this year in the U.S and getting a European crescendo this week at the IBM Smarter Commerce Global Summit in Monaco. I first blogged about it back on  May 21 . Here's some data to set the stage: 270B calls made annually to call centers costing $600B 1 in 2 incoming calls require escalation or go unresolved 61% of all calls could have been resolved with better access to information 4.6% market share... Tasktop's Dave West on fixing Whack-a-Mole development strategy

slaningham 100000GSNP | | Visits (183)

Tasktop Technologies' Dave West is on a mission. Kill email and spreadsheets in the ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) space. To be grammatically fuzzy but conceptually pointed, Tasktop is about managing the managing of the application lifecycle. But we're not talking about more managers (whew!), just better methodology and tools. Dave explains. Our mission is connect the world of software delivery. So we connect up all these different tools, all of these different disciplines, and allow software to go from point A to point B... [More]

DevOps is family therapy for the IT/software development intersection

slaningham 100000GSNP | | Visits (183)

DevOps is short for Development Operations. Too the average eye it doesn't look like a title for a transformative approach to the cyclical design, development, and deployment of software technology. But it is. It's a method that stresses communication, collaboration and integration between software developers and IT professionals, and it's  here because the old way of doing things in a linear manner with varying degrees of process isolation just won't work in the rapidly evolving age of  the internet IS the computer .... Democratic workplaces: nice, but can they compete?

slaningham 100000GSNP | | Visits (456)

Of course they can, and Traci Fenton, CEO of  WordBlu , shares evidence and explains why in my interview with her today. Traci founded WorldBlu in 1997 to advocate for and teach about the benefits of democracy in the workplace. Fresh out of college, she joined a Fortune 500 company, beaming with enthusiasm that her voice would be heard and she could make a difference, only to find herself in a toxic and dehumanizing environment. Forty more years of this? Nah! Instead she set out on a different path to making a difference, and to helping... [More]

Social media strategies for building a powerful brand

slaningham 100000GSNP | | Visits (478)

I sat down at SXSWi a few weeks ago with Susan Emerick and Chris Boudreaux, co-authors of  The Most Powerful Brand On Earth: How to Transform Teams, Empower Employees, Integrate Partners and Mobilize Customers to Beat the Competition in Digital and Social Media . Susan and Chris are social strategists/leaders, at IBM and Accenture respectively, and bring a wealth of experience and insight to the conversation on  where the rubber meets the road  in social business. Hard to believe I just shot my  last official episode as host of the developerWorks podcast ,  the program I founded on ibm.com/developerworks seven years ago. We started as an audio-only podcast, in the early days of podcasting, and evolved to video about three years ago. Hundreds of episodes and many great guests later, I’m moving on to new adventures in IBM rich media production and making way for a new host at dW. Calvin Powers, the dW Security editor, will take over and bring his own perspective to what will continue as vital part of... [More]
