Upgrade from Windows XP to 7 64bit? No. Think twice.
Migrate from Windows XP to 7 64bit? Well that is the right thinking, but lots of issues...
- Sure, you have to reinstall all applications, save data externally and then copy back after installing the OS
- Watch out for missing device drivers
- Watch out for application incompatibility
- Not just that it is not available/wont work in Windows 7 but it doesnt support 64bit hardware

A new report by Directions on Microsoft analysts Paul DeGroot and Rob Horwitz called "5 Reasons Why Microsoft Licensing Is Hard" claims that Microsoft licensing isn't likely to get any easier any time soon..."
Microsoft doesn't think there's a problem," report co-writer DeGroot said in an interview Wednesday. "The money keeps rolling in ... Microsoft looks at the numbers and the reality is that most customers don't have a choice."
And despite Microsoft's rosy view of things, he said that some enterprise customers have chosen not to renew their contracts this year because "the customer doesn't understand the value of what they bought or how they bought it," DeGroot said."

"Microsoft has traditionally not embraced the concept of VDI. For the longest time it was actually a technical violation of the Windows desktop license agreement to use Windows for VDI. Then when Microsoft finally changed that policy, they did so by creating a license called "VECD" (for Vista Enterprise Centralized Desktop) which is a new license that's required in addition to your Vista Enterprise license. .. Oh yeah, VECD is only available if you have Software Assurance. ..
Microsoft created a new license bundle called the "Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Suite," which, like most Microsoft products, is available in multiple editions. This suite is not a new product, but rather a hodge-podge bundle of most of the different things you'll need to start using Microsoft's VDI platform. ... The problem is that the "suite" is just a sort of random collection of various products that aren't really related. ..."
