Learn how IBM Lotus Component Designer and IBM WebSphere Portal are the ideal tools for creating and delivering composite applications. Follow along with a real-life scenario in which you download a sample component created with Lotus Component Designer, deploy it to WebSphere Portal, and turn it into a fully working composite application.

Objectives

  • Build a component with design elements required for composite applications.

  • Define wiring properties.

  • Create the code that publishes wiring properties.

  • Create the actions that get triggered when wiring properties are published.

  • Create parameters and pages for personalizing portlets.

  • Create and map user roles to template roles.

  • Create a composite application, including the template and pages.

  • Set permissions for a composite application.

  • Design and wire portlets.

  • Test composite applications.

Prerequisites

None.

System requirements

To complete the steps in this tutorial, you must install and configure the IBM Lotus Component Designer 6.0 tool and runtime code.

You can download a free trial version of Lotus Component Designer V6.0 from developerWorks.

The tool is installed on a client machine, and the runtime code is installed on IBM WebSphere Portal 6.0.0.1. For details, see the IBM Lotus Component Designer 6.0 Installation and Configuration Guide.
