The Lotus® iNotes® Sametime® Proxy package provides an update to the Sametime Proxy Server that is needed if you want to benefit from the Sametime Proxy Server Web 2.0 experience in Lotus iNotes.

Introduction

The Lotus iNotes 8.5.2 release includes support for the Sametime Proxy Server as a technology preview, and as such is not formally supported at this time. The code changes in the Lotus iNotes update will be included in a future release of the Sametime Proxy Server.

The Sametime Proxy Server provides Lotus iNotes clients with an updated feature-rich Contact List and Chat UI, and eliminates the need for a JVM on the client for these services. The Sametime Proxy Server is a self-contained WebSphere-based application that can easily be added to an existing iNotes/Sametime deployment with minimal configuration changes. For a new deployment, a minimum of three servers have to be installed, one each for: iNotes, Sametime, and Sametime Proxy.

Prerequisites

Lotus Sametime Proxy Server, version 8.5. See the IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 information center for information on setting up and installing the Sametime Proxy Server.

Installation instructions

Once you have downloaded the iNotes Sametime Proxy package, install it according to the included readme file. After the package is installed, use the following steps to configure iNotes integration with the Sametime Proxy Server:

  1. Using the Admin client, go to the Server Configurations view and open the Server Configuration document.
  2. Go to the Lotus iNotes tab and, in the Directory type used by IBM Lotus Sametime server field, choose the directory type selected during Sametime server setup and installation.
  3. Add the following Notes.ini settings to your Domino server:

    Minimum settings using authentication to Sametime Proxy by token:

    iNotes_WA_SametimeProxy=1
    iNotes_WA_SametimeProxyServer=http://STProxyServer.com:port

    (Use the port that was set up by the proxy server. The default is 9080.)

    Optional Notes.ini settings:

    To authenticate with the Sametime Proxy using Username/Password rather than by token:

    iNotes_WA_SametimeProxyLogin=1

    To support secure SSL connections:

    iNotes_WA_SametimeProxyServerSSL=https://STProxyServer.com:port
    (Use the port that was set up by the proxy server. The default is 9443.)

Feedback

We would very much like to hear your comments on this technology preview. Please post your comments to the IBM Lotus Notes/Domino 8.5 forum, in the iNotes - Full Mode Product Area, New Features Technical Area.
