Measuring the distribution and skew of transaction response times for IBM Enterprise application datasets

This white paper describes our analysis and approach to measuring the distribution of transaction times during a five-day workload run of the IBM Lotus Domino, IBM SmartCloud Engage, and IBM Lotus Quickr for Domino Enterprise applications and provides a qualitative assessment of each dataset.

Ashley J Timmins (TIMMINSA@ie.ibm.com.), Reliability Tester, IBM

Ashley Timmins joined IBM's Software Lab in Dublin, Ireland, as a contractor in 2007, becoming permanent in 2008, first working on Lotus Quickr and moving to IBM SmartCloud as a System Verification Tester. He comes from a testing background, specializing in Performance/Reliability testing. He completed a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computing and Management Science at Sheffield Hallam University in 2002. Devon Clarke (CLARKDEV@ie.ibm.com), Systems Test Engineer, IBM

Devon Clarke has 15 years of experience in Information Technology, the last 12 of which he has provided IBM Software Solutions Services to large industry clients with user bases of 10,000+ globally, as a Domino System Administrator. After joining IBM's Dublin Software Laboratory in 2009 as a Notes/Domino Software Engineer, he moved to the Quickr Domino Team for reliability and server verification test, and is currently on the IBM Connections Team working on integration testing between the Lotus and IBM product portfolios. Jonathan Dunne (jonathan_dunne@ie.ibm.com), Staff Software Engineer, IBM

Jonathan Dunne has eight years experience working on the SVT team at IBM's Dublin, Ireland facility, using IBM Rational software as part of a system test infrastructure. He has worked on a number of major J2EE releases, including Workplace, Workplace Collaborative Learning, LotusLive Engage, and Lotus Quickr, and spent three years with National University of Ireland (NUI), Maynooth, working on Network Impairment research projects.
