For use with "October 2005 stream" (superseded by 2007-02-15 recommended feature patch 12).

linux-2.6.16-s390-esl-v1-october2005.tar.gz MD5 recommended (2006-11-17) (superseded)

Summary:
kernel (new function): Data execution protection for user processes (esl-patch).
Description:

This feature provides an execution protection for code in user space data segments which are marked as not executable. It can prevent, for example, stack overflow exploits and generally makes a system insensitive to buffer-overflow attacks in user space.

Note that this patch provides a recommended (optional) add-on to the "October 2005 stream", to be applied as last patch on top of patch 10 (or later).

To create the complete linux kernel sources, with the recommended (optional) add-on for 'Data execution protection', the "October 2005 stream" kernel patches in the System Build Cross Reference (up to patch 10 or later) need to be applied in sequence and the 'Data execution protection'-patch applied as last patch.
