  ECKD measurements
  SCSI measurements
Comparison of full configuration ECKD and SCSI
Comparison of single path logical volume (LV) ECKD and SCSI

Measurement objectives

The measurements aim at finding out the performance/throughput of a DS8300 when the workload is running over

  • One disk (1D)

  • One channel (1C) - for SCSI measurement only
Only one channel on the host

  • One WWPN (1WWPN) - for SCSI measurement only
Only one host adapter on the storage server

  • One rank (1R)
Up to 16 disks out of one rank

  • One Device Adapter (1DA)
Up to 32 disks out of 2 ranks served by only one device adapter of a device adapter pair

  • One Device Adapter Pair (1DP)
Up to 64 disks out of 4 ranks served only by one device adapter pair (both servers)

  • Full configuration (F)
64 disks out of 16 ranks and 2 servers

  • Logical Volumes (LVs)
A logical volume using 16 disks out of 16 ranks, 16 stripes, created with LVM2
