Kernel 2.4 based: June 2003 stream

Updates for the "June 2003 stream."

Linux for S/390 31-bit distributions and Linux for zSeries 64-bit distributions can be built using:

• kernel (including kernel-headers) 2.4.21 along with:
  • kerntypes 2.4.21
  • On-demand timer patch
  • 3590 tape device-driver as source (formerly OCO)
• The recommended 2.4.21 downloads of this page were tested with the tool-chain, utilities, and debug tools:

  • utilities:
    • modutils 2.4.7
    • s390-tools 1.2.4

Upgrade 2006-05-19:

• 3590 tape device driver discipline now provided in Open Source -- no longer as tape_3590 OCO module

Upgrade 2004-12-03:

• lcs driver from "April 2004 stream" kernel 2.6.5 retrofitted to "June 2003 stream" kernel 2.4.21

New support 2004-10-07:

• qeth-support for Layer 2 support for OSA-Express (see IBM U.S. Hardware Announcement Letter 104-346) which is planned to be available for for z890 and z990 (EC stream J13477) on October 29, 2004.
• qeth-support for z/VM V5.1 Layer 2 support for OSA-Express (see IBM U.S. Software Announcement Letter 204-235) which is planned to be available December 3, 2004, with PTF for APAR VM63538. (See the 2084/2086 PSP buckets for any additional required service.)
• z90crypt exploitation of Zero-Pad function in PCIXCC (see IBM U.S. Hardware Announcement Letter 104-118)
• new device-driver ctcmpc required for using IBM Communications Server for Linux (see Communications Server for Linux on zSeries homepage)

  • PCIX Cryptographic Coprocessor (PCIXCC) feature (#0868) of the z990
  • Support for FCP SAN Management of z990: The Linux on zSeries enhancements provide the Host Bus Adapter (HBA) Application Programming Interface (API) with zfcp device driver enhancements and the new "zfcp HBA API library"
