18 Dec 2007 Thank you for your continued interest in grid computing and for looking to developerWorks
to keep you up to date. The Grid computing zone is no longer being updated because the
zone is being discontinued.
All the articles and tutorials will still be here for several months. Some will be
moved permanently to other zones on developerWorks, and a search for your topic
of interest will show you a full listing. You might want to save PDF versions of the articles and tutorials you want to keep.

Grid computing has been maturing well over the past many years, and its capabilities
have found their way into IBM's mainstream products. Grid computing has not been about
a set of specific grid products but rather, a set of capabilities within our products
to create grid computing environments. These environments are focused on computational
(workload) capabilities, the integration of information (data) with those computational
capabilities, and information and data models to manage real-world objects in
computational and information grids — in a service-oriented way using standards.
By example, grid capabilities are inherent in, but not limited to our products today, and continue to be enhanced.
These grid capabilities form an important foundation for new advancements in the data
center as IBM moves forward with its virtualization, cloud computing, and data center
initiatives to provide the capabilities needed to optimize your IT infrastructure to run
an efficient, responsive, and flexible business.
