IBM developer kit for Linux: Runtime Environment information

The Runtime Environment for Linux® contains the classes used to create a Java™ runtime environment and to run Java programs. The Runtime Environment for Linux contains the Java Virtual Machine, Java classes, and supporting files.

You can use the Runtime Environment simply to run Java programs, or you can include it with your product.

Include the Runtime Environment for Linux with your product if:

  • You want the Runtime Environment for Linux to be installed in your product's directory and used only by the product.
  • You want to limit testing to a single Runtime Environment for Linux. This allows you to ship your product with a controlled environment.

For further information on including the Runtime Environment for Linux with your product, see the Sun Web site.
