Data Studio Dev. 2.1 license and pureQuery - upgrade to Optim

I had to reinstall my IBM Data Studio Developer v2.1 IDE today. I chose to download it from ibm.com and noticed that you have a whole new product called Optim. Version 2.1 wasn't possible to download, although the link said it would be 2.1. Instead I got 2.2... I pretty confused right now about the differences between old Data Studio and Optim.
When I started Data Studio Dev, I noticed I couldn't add pureQuery support to my projects anymore (the context menu lacked the alternative "Add pureQuery support..."). Tomorrow I'm going to try to reinstall the product from the zip files I received with the license. What worries me is that the pureQuery support is missing from the product. Is it supposed to be that way? I bought the license in June solely for the pureQuery feature and now I have a product that doesn't contain that feature anymore.
How much does it cost to upgrade from Data Studio Developer v2.1 to Optim Development Studio 2.2 and is it necessary to do so?

Hi, Ludmilla
I'm a little confused about what you actually downloaded from the Web. Do you have the URL that you linked from and tha you linked to? If there is a mislabeled download or web page, we need to get that fixed. I'm wondering if perhaps you downloaded plain old Data Studio instead of the Optim Development Studio. Plain Data Studio does not include pureQuery.

In any event, Optim Development Studio is simply the new name for the latest release of what used to be called Data Studio Developer. This is indeed the product that DOES include pureQuery. For more on the various renames and functionality in each product, you can read this packaging article:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0909optimpackaging/
If you have a current license of Data Studio Developer, you can upgrade at no additional cost. Version 2.2 does have a lot of good features, which you can read about in this article on What's New: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0906optimdeveloper/

Hi, Kathy

Thank you for the fast reply.

This is how I downloaded Data Studio Dev.: I opened ibm.com, clicked "Support and downloads", then "Trials and demos".
Under the letter I i clicked IBM Data Studio. In the list that appeared I chose "7. IBM Data Studio Developer Version: 2.1.0 Trial" for all sorts of OS (Linux, Windows, etc.). That link led me to a page with the title "Trial: IBM Optim Development Studio and Optim pureQuery Runtime". The version was V2.2.

How do I practically go about to upgrade to Optim Dev. Studio? Do I use the same jar that came with the three zipped files? (C1T6DML.zip, C1T6FML.zip, and C1T6GML.zip)
C1T6GML.zip contains the jar com.ibm.datastudio.developer.pek_2.1.

Hi, Ludmilla
OK, we're still not sure why you aren't seeing the pureQuery on the 2.2 trial copy (unless maybe you are shell sharing with something else and your trial expired).
In any event, if you have a current license of 2.1, you should be entitled to go to passport advantage and download the permanent license (product activation kit)for 2.2.
Here is the link to the technote that includes the part number and instructions.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=4014&uid=swg24023021

Here is the link to how to import the license. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idm/v2r2/topic/com.ibm.datatools.ds.install.doc/topics/t_license_import.html

I hope this helps. I'm sure my colleagues will let me know if I've led you astray. In the meantime I'm going to ask to the download technote added to the trial download page for 2.2.
