I've been quite busy lately, so not much time to post, but congrats! and welcome(officially)!
You know, you should have hold out and told them your purchase is conditional on it shipping in a single DVD. Now I am afraid you'll be getting just the CDs =)
BUT, if I waited for DVD delivery, then I would never get 7.6. I guess I'm resigned to getting 51+ CDs (do you know how long it takes our IT support folks to AV scan 51 CDs? <g>). We did check about DVD delivery and were told that it doesn't exist.
We downloaded RDz 7.5. My sysprogs told me it was one zip file, but then we couldn't install RDz on a PC which didn't have RAD on it. We were told by IBM that we would have more to download than 1 zip file. So we are downloading RDz 7.6 again.
Do you guys know how many zip files we would have to download for RDz 7.6 with Java (not EGL). Thanks
Not sure, but as V7.5 came on 51 CDs, we didn't want to download it. I have asked IBM about shipping on DVDs but AFAIK that media is not available (the CDs shipped out within 2 days from IBM). Out of the 51 or so CDs, I think we used about 8 or 9 for installation. That depends on what stuff you need (thsi was the Java version).
Dont' quote me on this as I've never gone through download/installation via this path before =) but I believe there are two for the client:
IBM Rational Developer for System z with Java V7.6 (Core) Multiplatform Multilingual eAssembly (CR9M3ML)
IBM Rational Developer for System z with Java V7.6 (Optional) Multiplatform Multilingual eAssembly (CR9M5ML)
and one for the host code:
IBM Rational Developer for System z V7.6 (Server) Multiplatform Multilingual eAssembly (CR9M6ML)
Thanks Steven :-) Installing this thing (what originally seemed like a cake walk) is becoming a challenge!
It's so confusing because Kevin said 51 CD's. My system programmer said 2 zip files. The IBM rep says 9 zip files... Only the state of confusion in my brain seems to be a constant :-)
I am sure lot of IBM'ers with their hands guilty in RDz are reading this. Why don't you throw me a bone for pity's sake :-) I'm kidding. Hopefully we'll be in a better position next week.
I can't tell you about the downloads as we haven't used them. I have had the CDs (all 51 of them for the total set)in my hand. We have ordered V7.6 and it has been shipped from IBM. I'll try to update this when the 7.6 CDs come in with a quantity. We did check again with IBM for availability of DVDs vs CDs and were told again that DVDs are not available as a shipping option.
Well, I started. I uninstalled V7.5 of RD/z (I wanted a clean install to document the process for the IT support folks that will install the remaining PCs eventually).
But, I did notice that I did not have an "activation" CD in the V7.6 set of CDs (we did have one of these for the V7.5 set of CDs).
So, I won't start installing V7.6 yet until I hear back from our IBM rep for RD/z about the activation CD.
We are still messing around at the start of the install. I have another post about the SETUP CD for Java being incorrect as shipped from IBM. The replacement disk was also not "right". Long story, see the other post. I suspect that IBM will be shipping us another replacement CD soon.
Regards,
K
