Hi,

I just had an article on IBM Rational Method Composer published in latest edition of Rational Edge that you may want to check out. As you can see, a lot of new stuff for current RUP users.
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/nov05/kroll/index.html

Also, you can sign up for beta 3 on
https://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/beta/rationalbetanoms.nsf
Selecting Rational Method Composer in the drop down will start the registration process.

I and my team are happy to discuss the article and its content in more detail. Just post your question to this forum!

Hello Per,

a little confusing to have a Beta enrollment for a Rational product on a Lotus site that does not support an IBM Registration ID (we are an IBM Premier BP)! I am in the process of creating a Lotus ID, just to get on your list.

Hi,

I wonder to know if RMC will support some kind of Configuration Managemant of its assets.
In beta 3 version its not available. Clearcase baselining or similar will be a mandatory feature.

Permit simultaneos modification, so more than one person can work at a time, will be interesting too.

Thanks in advance.

The 7.0 release will be supported as a single user experience only.
However, the RUP content team managed all its RMC files in ClearCase and
worked concurrently on RUP. We will publish guidelines on DevWorks on how
to manually manage RMC files in a CM system with this release.

Thanks and best regards,
Peter Haumer.

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any papers/articles/books available that
explain how to use Rational Unified process for

1. Remote teams in case of Offshore outsourcing or distributed teams
2. How to handle Commercially Off the Shelf products
3. How to start using RUP for projects already in maintenance (but have tons
of problems)

I'm facing all the three situations in 2 of my projects and I have recently
started using iterative process and principles of RUP for software
development. So any help is highly appreciated.

You can review the list of available plug-ins at
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/5823.html

You find there the plug-in for COTS:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/05/510_cots/ as
well as the whitepaper that summarizes it here:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/aug05/peraire-pannone/

We are working on a maintenance plug-in, which will be available soon, but
perhaps you find some useful content for (3) in the legacy evolution
plug-in here:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/5434.html

Thanks and best regards,
Peter Haumer.

Interesting,

I would be glad if you can send me any information related on using RMC with ClearCase or reply to this topic when you publish the guidelines.

Thanks,

I have found some information on the IBM web site dealing with 'Actioning ITIL' and I understand that this is based on RMC. Since we currently use RUP and are implementing ITIL in our organisation I would like to find out more. Apparently 'Actioning ITIL' is part of the Tivoli Unified Process and I am having trouble finding out whether an 'ITIL plug-in' is going to be made available with RMC or how it will work otherwise. Can you provide any further information or links to articles etc?

IBM's ITIL content is captured in their ITUP (IBM Tivoli Unified Process). This content can be manipulated using the ITUP Composer: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/tivoli/products/unified-process-composer/.

The ITUP content is separate from the RMC tool and plug-ins, but there is a plug-in that integrates the ITUP plugin content and the RUP plugin content available here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/downloads/07/rmc_ v7.2/itsm_connection/index.html
