Does the Systems Director server have access to the Internet? Are there proxy settings that need to be set?

Hello,

Yes this server has access to the internet and no proxy settings are needed for this setup.

I believe you are getting the error message because the IBM Systems Director Server was unable to discover / request access to itself. If you look in Navigate Resources, do you see an OS MEP for the IBM Systems Director Server, and is its Access OK? If not, you'll want to start by trying to Request Access to it. If that fails, verify the Agent Manager is configured correctly (Settings --> Agent Manager Configuration).

Hello,

I have full access to this server. The status and access both say ok, and I see it listed twice when I view its inventory details.

thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

Here are the recommended steps for upgrading the IBM Systems Director Server. Note that this will work well for ALL updates from 6.1->6.1.1.3 this includes things like 6.1.1->6.1.1.3 as well. This will work for moving FROM any version of Director 6.1 TO any version of 6.1. From 6.1 to 6.1.1.3

1. Start the Resource Navigator by clicking on "Navigate Resources" in the left side navigation of the Director Console.
2. Click on All Systems.
3. Find the Operating System MEP for your Director Server and go to its properties page by right clicking on it and choosing Properties.
4. On the properties page choose the Inventory tab.
5. Make sure the dropdown is set for All Inventory and then click Collect Inventory.
6. Go to fix central at: http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/
7. Choose Product Group: IBM Systems Director, Product: IBM Systems Director, Installed Version: 6.1, Platform: All and hit next.
8. Check the Group: SysDir6_1_1_3 option and continue (using Download Director) (or SysDir6_1_1_2 ... )
9. Wait for updates to load, scroll down and agree to the license terms.
10. On the next page do not change the default selection of ALL updates. Scroll to the bottom and select Download Now.
11. In the Director Console navigate to Release Management->Updates
12. Look for the Import updates option on the right hand side of this page and select it. Enter in the director where the updates were downloaded from the web and run the task.
13. Wait for the inventory and import updates tasks to complete. you may want to wait an extra few minutes to ensure the background processing is complete.
14. Go to Release Management->Updates and choose the Show Needed Updates. Select your Director Server Operating System object from the browse option and hit run
15. You should be presented with 19 applicable updates for Windows Server, 21 for non-Windows Servers. for update to 6.1.1.3 from GA. If you are updating from 6.1.1 to 6.1.1.3 then you will get 13 applicable updates
16. Select all of the updates. Choose the install option
17. Run through the install updates wizard (applying them to the Director Server) and wait for the task to complete.
18. Some additional background processing will still continue after completed. It is recommended to wait an additional 30 minutes after completion.
19. Stop and Start your Director Server.
20. Update complete!
21. Go to Update Manager again and run Show installed updates. If no updates are listed then you need to run inventory again on the system, wait for compliance to complete, and then check this again.

Hope this helps.
