Is there a limit on the number of filesets I can have on a GPFS filesystem?

We would like to start implementing quotas on users directories, but the home directories are on the same GPFS filesystem as other directories where we can't have quotas. I thought about creating a fileset for each users directory, and having a quota on that, but there are 1000+ directories.

In release 3.3 the limit on filesets has been increased to 10,000. The limit before was only 1000. You would have to make some users share the same fileset if there are more users than filesets.

Thanks for the information. Is there any performance penalty when using a large number of filesets?

No penalty for general usage. But obviously, mmlsfileset has many more filesets to wade through.
