Hi,

Due to a full crash of my PC, I want to restore some file that have been save using the "Email protection" tab, but run into the following problem.
Restore seems to go fine, but I end with old file restored instead of recent one.

I dig a bit into the restore UI and realize that the version choosen by default for my file is NOT the latest:

For example, on the server the file is stored as :
27.05.2009 08:43 40'894'976 Inbox.cdp
02.11.2009 11:21 352'849'968 Inbox.cdp-FP1257157274.cdp
02.11.2009 11:22 356'387'872 Inbox.cdp-FP1257157372.cdp
02.11.2009 13:02 19'808 Inbox.cdp-FP1257164089.TPdelta.cdp
03.11.2009 10:19 545'824 Inbox.cdp-FP1257254307.TPdelta.cdp

But when I'm using the UI, doing :
  • Restore -> Next -> Folder view -> Change search location -> Other -> Specifying the crashed PC CDP location on the server
Then digging into the tree to find that I can choose following version for my file :
- 05/27/2009 09:43:22
- 11/03/2009 10:19:18
- 11/02/2009 13:02:50
- 11/02/2009 11:22:49
- 11/02/2009 11:21:15

and the dropdown list is defaulting to "05/27/2009..." ... that makes restoring an way too old file.

I believe this is due to the fact that this "05/27/2009" backup has been done without encryption, but the latest have encryption ... but at this
stage I'm didn't entered yet the encryption password ...

How to make CDP restore latest file ?

Hi,

In the GUI from the drop down menu for that file, select the latest one (11/03). Let me know if that restores properly.

Thanks,
Erik

Yes, when I'm choosing for individual file the correct (that is the latest) version, it restores ok.
But this is NOT convenient, I wan't to be able to select top directory structure and have all latest file restored.

As a side note, I also realized that when I'm choosing a top directory to restore, that contains directory wich are now deleted on source but still exists on server, those directories are restored but are empty.

Hi,

That is expected behavior. If you want to restore files in directories that have been deleted you will need to open each directory and select the files you want to restore.

Thanks,
Erik

I'm not sure this is really an desired behavior, let me rephrase this use case:
  • On the backed up pc, there was a directory, that was backed up by CDP
  • Then, I deleted it. (looking in the server using restore GUI, I see those file marked as deleted)
  • If I use the restore GUI, selecting a directory to restore that is above the one deleted, the deleted gets restored, without its deleted files.
  • So, deleted files are not restored wich is expected, but the containing directory is restored (empty) wich is confusing.

Hi,

I understand the situation, but the current design was to allow users to specify the exact files they wanted to restore in the case they deleted directories and files over time and then had a system failure. It was decide it would be better for users to select the files to restore instead of just restoring all files and then the users having to go back and decide which files they want deleted.

Thanks,
Erik
